Rusty Old Red River
Rusty old Red River, Lord, you move so slow,
Burdened by your seasons as you go,
You’ve seen a lot of sorrow, or so the old folks say,
River, can you wash the hurt away?
Rusty old Red River, time is on your side,
Looks like all your enemies have died,
But maybe all your friends are gone and you’re lonely, who can say?
River can you wash the hurt away?
The rivers of the mountains run as sweet as April rain,
And rivers like the Jordan wash away a sinner’s pain,
Other rivers seem so happy just to make a valley green,
So how come you’re the saddest thing I’ve seen?
Rusty old Red River, now at last I see,
Like your miles have muddied you, all my years have muddied me,
She said life was a loving game I’d never learn to play,
River can you wash the hurt away?
Oh you old Red River wash my hurt away!
